A Google Drive Alternative – Maestral

I have tried using Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox and iCloud of course. Among all, this Dropbox client really stood out as low energy impact syncing service. Which I would like to share with you.

Here is the walkthrough video

Maestral

  • DropBox client – which means you need to register an account on Dropbox for it to work.
  • Download Maestral on their official website. (Again, it’s free and open source, no worries.)

Reason To Use

  • Free and open source (So they don’t do sketchy stuff)
  • Lightweight – battery saving and improve laptop performance.
  • Easy to setup (Under a few minutes, you have a fully working syncing folder)

Worth Noting

  • Google drive has been buggy for me syncing on macOS and it consume a lot of memory.
  • Dropbox official client uses a lot of memory.

Their github repo.

I will keep on finding services like this, stay tuned!

Cheers
